The finest of the international Masters circuit returns to Majorca once again to dispute the 2011 International Masters Cycling Week, which this year celebrates its 14th Edition.

Statistics have shown a steady increase in participation over the years, not only with respect to the number of competitors but also the number of countries involved, therefore it is hardly surprising that, for another consecutive year, the International Masters Cycling Week with its professional organization, excellent routes and three challenging trials, held between the 10th and 15th October, will attract an all time record with respect to the number of enthusiasts.

Majorca offers a wide range of incentives to cycling enthusiasts, both amateur and professional: the Mediterranean climate, its wide variety of landscape, an excellent communication network to any point in Europe, its highly specialized hotel offer …These advantages situate Majorca, not to mention the Balearic Islands in general, as one of the favourite destinations for the practise of this sport, whatever the season.

This year the major novelty of the trial is that the organizational headquarters have been transferred to Playa de Muro. The permanent office will be located in the Hotel Iberostar Playa de Muro, where participants will be able to formalize inscriptions, collect bibs, consult classifications and be transferred to the start/finish of the various stages, to name but a few of the services available.

The Hotel Association of Playa de Muro has a deep commitment to the sport of cycling, something which is reflected in the varied, attractive and highly economical accommodation offer for hotels in the area extended to all participants of the International week. Further information on prices and conditions may be found on their website.

The first trial will begin on Monday 10th October with the XVII European Masters Trophy, inscribed on the UCI calendar; a traditional classic held along the Platja de Palma. This event, consisting of four trials, will witness the participation of a total of eight categories which will compete for the maillot, medal and trophy awarding them the title of the finest of their category in Europe.

Tuesday 11th marks the start of the XV International Trophy for Masters Palmanova – Magalluf, and as in previous editions the Maritime Promenade of Palmanova in Calvia has been chosen as the start/finish which, after guiding competitors along the relatively flat sea front will lead participants up to the mountains, twice in the case of younger participant trials, and along the Coll de Galilea and Coll des Tords.

Following the rest day, participants will be invited to compete in the Masters Challenge Tour of Majorca, held in three stages from the 13th-15th October, covering the greater part of the islands geography and the beauty of its contrasting landscape.

Finally, the award ceremony will take place during lunch at one of the magnificent hotels situated along the Playa de Muro, location of the 2011 organizational headquarters. As always, this highly popular event, counting on the presence of participants, local authorities and sponsors, will put the finishing touch to the event and will reveal the Master 30/40 & Master 50/60 category winners of the Grand Prize, courtesy of Air Europa & Oasis, of this years edition of the International Week.

In conclusion, professional organisation, excellent routes and an extremely high competitive level will ensure the success and continuity, for yet another year, of the International Masters Cycling Week.
